Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

When you find yourself in need of some professional support to deal with personal, work, financial or family issues, your Employee Assistance Program (EAP) can assist. You and your immediate family (spouse, dependent children, parents, and parents-in-law) can use this program for a variety of issues, including:

  • Marital and family conflicts
  • Job-related difficulties
  • Stress, anxiety, and depression
  • Parent and child relationships
  • Legal and financial counseling
  • Identity theft counseling
  • Financial planning
  • Various other related issues

Incentive for Non-Smokers

Stop letting your money go up in smoke Quitting smoking is hard. But it’s worth the effort – both for your health AND your wallet.

How much lower will the premium be for non-smokers?

Health care premiums will be reduced by $10/week for employees who qualify as non-smokers.

What is the definition of a non-smoker?

A non-smoker is a person who has used no tobacco products in any form in the previous 12 months. Electronic cigarettes are considered a tobacco product.

Next steps

If you are already a non-smoker: congratulations! It is a well-known fact that non-smokers have more chances to stay healthy.

If you are a smoker: do not forget that Cascades and Cigna offer you help to quit smoking. Please make inquiries with your local management.

Maternity Leave

Salaried Exempt – 17 weeks.  The first six weeks are paid at 100% and the remaining 11 weeks are paid at 2/3’s of your base salary. Available after 1 year of service.

Salaried Non-Exempt – 6 weeks of pay at 100%

Jury Duty

Up to 10 days per calendar year, any days past 10 will be allowed but not paid.

Funeral Leave

5 consecutive days for the death of a parent, spouse, child,

3 consecutive days for the death of a current mother/father-in-law, brother/sister, brother/sister-in-law, son/daughter-in-law, grandchild, or grandparent.

Same applies for immediate, half-blood relatives.

Vacation Plan

  • New hires vacation is prorated in the first year up to May.
  • Carry-over and payment of unused vacation are not permitted.

Vacation Time

  • Up to 5 years - 3 weeks
  • 5 to 12 years - 4 weeks
  • 12 to 20 years - 5 weeks
  • 20 years and over - 6 weeks

Enhanced Vacation Plan

Take an additional week of vacation without pay per year.

  • Depositing any weeks exceeding three weeks of vacation per year in their RRSP/401K or accumulating them to move up their retirement date.
  • Take three consecutive weeks of vacation
  • Split vacation into several days off.

In case of departure, only the remaining vacation days will be paid in proportion to the days accumulated during the current vacation period. Any overpayment must be repaid.

Gym Reimbursement

Cascades will reimburse a gym membership for the employee and family 50% of the total cost up to $200.

Clothing Allowance*

The objective is to provide permanent employees, with clothing and promotional items identified with the Cascades logo, in order to convey the company’s values such as pride and sense of belonging.

After one year of service, permanent employees benefit from a yearly lump sum (from Jan 1st to Dec 31st) or pro rata the period worked.

Salaried, non-exempt employees are granted $200. Salaried, exempt are granted $400.

Balance at the end of the year cannot be transferred to the next year.

Tuition Reimbursement

Permanent employees with 1 year of service are eligible to receive up to $1,800 each calendar year

Eligible expenses include: tuition, registration fees, books, & lab fees. Course must be directly related to the employee’s position

Must pass the course with a minimum of a C.

Safety Shoes & Glasses

Employees that are required to regularly go on the production floor must wear safety shoes and safety glasses.

Salary Non-Exempt: The Company will reimburse up to $85 for Safety shoes and $200 toward the purchase of prescription safety glasses every two years.

Salaried Exempt:  Cascades will reimburse up to $175 for Safety Shoes and $200 towards the purchase of prescription safety glasses every two years.
